The WorldSkills Calgary 2009 Opening Ceremony takes place today. At a special ticketed event competitors will be ‘pumped up’ and their supporters will be offered a glimpse of the week ahead. The action will feature the Parade of Competitors, a wide variety of entertainment displaying the diversity of Canadian culture, and end with a fireworks display.
Calgary is 7 hours behind the UK, so when the ceremony starts at 6pm, it will be 1 o’clock in the morning our time. No need to stay up late however, as we’ll ensure you catch the best bits right here and through our twitter, flickr and YouTube channels – make sure you are following the action!
So, Dean and Cliff, along with the rest of Team UK, have had a couple of days to acclimatise to their Calgary surroundings and to put the finishing touches to their competition preparation.
The ‘games’ begin tomorrow with the first day of intensive competitions that run through until the end of Saturday. Here’s wishing you all the best guys, we’re right behind you!
All went well at our send off event for Cliff and Dean at the Wales Office in London yesterday.
It was a sunny day and there were plenty of smiles as all of our guests joined in wishing the lads good luck for next week. The guys will be representing Team UK at WorldSkills Calgary, but we couldn’t resist sending them on their way without a little bit of Wales in their pockets – so it was a dragon’s send off from us!
Later in the evening, Team UK celebrated at the stylish Imagination Gallery. They were joined by celebrity chef, James Martin.
Check out some of the photos from both send off events on flickr.
Dean & Cliff were relaxed throughout and clearly remaining focused to perform at their best in Calgary. We are sure they’ll do us proud!
